The Christiania Sound Harvesting Experiment


À l'occasion du 50e anniversaire de la ville libre de Christiania (Copenhague, Danemark), Marc Lalonde a été invité pour une résidence de cinq jours de création. Muni d'un enregistreur portatif, il a parcouru les 8 hectares du squat pour capter les sons de la vie foisonnante qui anime le projet utopiste. Il était aussi équipé de maillets, de baguettes, d'un bec de saxophone et d'un archet de violon lui permettant de transformer différents objets en instruments spontanés. Toute cette matière sonore a ensuite été manipulée pour composer sur ordinateur une trame musicale qu'il a performée en direct sur l'un des sites de la ville. De retour à Montréal, Lalonde a retravaillé les pièces et partitions créées lors de cette résidence pour constituer le projet « The Christiania Sound Harvesting Experiment ». Tous les sons sur cet album ont été enregistrés à Christiania.

La création de cette œuvre a été rendue possible grâce à l’appui financier du Conseil des arts et des lettres du Québec.

On the occasion of the 50th anniversary of Free Town Christiania (Copenhagen, Denmark), Marc Lalonde was invited for a five-day creative residency. Equipped with a portable recorder, he traveled the 8 hectares of the squat to capture the sounds of the life that animates the utopian project. He was also equipped with mallets, drumsticks, a saxophone mouthpiece and a violin bow allowing him to transform various objects into spontaneous instruments. All of this sound material was then manipulated to compose a musical score on the computer and delivered in performance at one of the city's sites. Back in Montreal, Lalonde reworked the pieces and scores created during this residency as “The Christiania Sound Harvesting Experiment”. All sounds on this album were recorded in Christiania.
